Woodstock McLaren Vale Shiraz 2013

The 2013 Woodstock McLaren Vale Shiraz shows a deep vibrant cerise color with some youthful purple hues. Mint and spice aromatics belie the full but velvety smooth, lingering palate. Soft, yet powerful tannins offer the promise of a long lasting Shiraz evolving into secondary flavors with careful cellaring for up to 10 years. The 2013 vintage was low yielding in McLaren Vale but ideal for ripening and development of soft tannins; the building blocks of rich, lasting flavors. Grape size and bunches were smaller yet full of flavor and ripe tannins. These ideal vintage conditions were great for aromatic varietal expression. After fermentation on skins for a minimum of 5 days, this Shiraz was barrel aged for up to 14 months in carefully selected French and American oak barrels. Fifteen percent is matured in new oak barrels while the rest mature in 2 to 3 year old oak for complexity without oak domination. Winemaker: Scott Collett & Ben Glaetzer Varietal/Blend:   100% Shiraz Food Pairings: Oven roasted lamb cutlet rubbed in dukkah served with saffron rice and mild green curry sauce or Chinese five spice confit of duck leg served with Asian greens and noodles.
